Obambi Meets GodzillaCorp

Smashed like so many Single-Payer, Public-Option hopes, dreams of Financial Sector Regulation and End of the War (choose one or two) Celebrations.

I still prefer to believe, even in this age of mistrust and perceived betrayal of progressive values, that the realities of corporate governing have debilitated our President's actual ability to govern (in the old sense of governing when "for the people" meant something) - and his heart. It is hard to listen to the man, watch his eyes and how he is with his family and not feel that he has a very real core inside of that political exterior that actually cares about us.

The Republicans REALLY GAVE AWAY THE STORE to the multi-national private sector without even thinking twice. Our meager, merely elected President seems nearly, if not totally, powerless to address corporate malfeasance because of the enormous influence corporations now have on our government - thanks to 30 years of conservative thinking and the adoption of conservative economic principals. An abject failure and now government (and judiciary) has ceded so much power to the corporations that we may never get it back.

Amazing respect duel between BB and Eric

What the F*** is it With All These F***ing Cats?

Every F***ing Saturday all these stupid f***ing cat pics pop out of teh blogosphere like clockwork.
Cats are the enemy. Are now and always have been. I have been allergic to cats all my life and every damn girlfriend I ever had had a f***ing cat. Medicated to the max is no way to impress your date. Neither is sneezing, coughing and not being able to breathe. I hate f***ing cats. Especially the way they look at you, like you're stupid. They do not deserve the time they get from FUCKING CATURDAY...
I try to see the cuteness but only see sickness, anger, frustration and hubris.
F*** them... let them write their own blogs.

Fox News Feeling the Heat

If this doesn't get the 40 Million Fox News viewer's attention, nothing will. When (if) this hits the mainstream all the patriotic messaging will be proved propaganda and the viewer's loyalty more a sign of illness than love of country.

From Think Progress

"Saudi Prince Alwaleed bin Talal owns a 7 percent stake in News Corp — the parent company of Fox News — making him the largest shareholder outside the family of News Corp CEO Rupert Murdoch. Alwaleed has grown close with the Murdoch enterprise, recently endorsing James Murdoch to succeed his father and creating a content-sharing agreement with Fox News for his own media conglomerate, Rotana."

The Wing-Nut Daily has noticed... how long before the 'baggers' take note? But, there is a serious problem. Fox News has just moved in with Sarah Palin giving her the platform she needs for propagandizing and a possible 2012 run. Can't bite that hand. What's a bagger to do?

"Last weekend, at the right-wing Constitutional Coalition’s annual
conference
in St. Louis, Joseph Farah, publisher of the far right
WorldNetDaily, blasted Fox News for its relationship with Alwaleed. Farah noted
correctly that Alwaleed had boasted in the past about forcing Fox News to change its content relating to its coverage of riots in Paris, and warned that such foreign ownership of American media is “really dangerous.”

If I remember right, isn't Rupurt Murdock Australian? Is that not a foreign country? How many Fox viewers are aware of that little nugget?

...in the “rare” interview Alwaleed gave last month, [with Neil Cavuto] he reaffirmed his “alliance” with the Murdoch family and told Cavuto why he has a personal stake in influencing American politics:
– On continuing America’s dependence on
fossil fuels, Saudia Arabian oil: “Saudi Arabia’s strategic alliance with the
United States will continue and as a derivative of that, the link with the oil
between oil and dollars is there. The bulk of our GDP, the bulk of budget comes
from oil and oil is still a dollar based commodity.” As Media Matters has documented,
Fox News is a reliable source of misinformation on clean energy, and has aggressively attacked efforts to move America away from a fossil fuel
dependent economy
.

– On opposing financial reforms, bank responsibility
fee: “In a way I’m conflicted because I’m invested in Citigroup but at the more
global picture, I’m a big supporter of the United States. I believe taxing the
banks right now is not the right thing at all. It’s like you have a patient
coming out of an ICU.” Alwaleed owns a $4.3 billion dollars stake in Citigroup,
a massive bank that spent millions lobbying against financial reform last year.

This comes as no surprise to me. I have been aware of this unholy alliance, as have most of us in the reality-based community, for some time. Now, how to leverage this information to get this scum out of our politics for good. Fox News has never had the US best interests at heart, only the bottom line. The damage done has been extensive. Let's hope it's repairable before this crap hits the fan:

With the Citizens United Supreme Court decision essentially freeing
corporations to spend unlimited amounts in campaigns, theoretically Alwaleed can
pressure the American corporations he owns stock in to spend
millions — or even billions
— of dollars attacking candidates he opposes. In
addition to his powerful Fox News outlet, Alwaleed and other foreign investors
have potentially unprecedented power to impact American elections.

OK Newsers... time to step up and REALLY care about your country. It's going to be hard to wean yourselves away from Papa O'Reilly and crazy Glenn.. but you can do it! Check into Randi Rhodes' Republican Rehab if you can't quit on your own. You'll thank us for it.

Sarah Palin - Grifter or Candidate

How about both? A floor wax and a dessert topping. I don't like to give her space in my head or any extra publicity. But, as my favorite diagnostic magic 8-ball says - 'signs point to yes', that she could be the republican nominee for President in 2012. Scott Brown for V.P.?

So... just the minimum amount of reporting... just enough to keep this threat to our democracy on the radar... just serious enough to matter but not critical enough to merit full-scale panic mode.

Is Sarah a grifter? (Thanks Attaturk).
Jon Stewart has the scoop. "Here's How They Do It... The hot one finds an elderly victim," Jon explains, "and then she seduces him with her un-fancy talk…Once he pulls out the checkbook, Boom! Here come the relatives. The old fart never had a chance."

Dems I Like and... There is No Such Thing as the Center

I was having a conversation (winning a discussion) with one of my "independent" friends and after he could not find a credible piece of evidence to overcome my reasoned logic of why there is no center, only right and wrong - he resorts to the time-tested, omniscient, all-powerful ender of all political arguments... "They're all the same".

So... I reeled off three Dems that are definitely different from their Republican counterparts... and threw in Bernie Sanders for good measure.

I refuse to be drawn into the black hole of political corruption sameness between the parties. Sure, there are enough corrupt politicians to go around for both parties but there is a definite difference. Commit these to memory for your next "independent" discussion.

Al Franken, Alan Grayson and Anthony Weiner.
And if you have more, please add them in the comments section. Thanks!

Don't Mess with 'Raging Grannies'

by David Kurtz via TPM

CBS has been taking a lot of heat for accepting an anti-abortion Superbowl ad starring Heisman Winner Tim Tebow and paid for by Focus on the Family, while rejecting in recent years ads with left-leaning messages. We rundown the latest developments here, but this protest video by the so-called "Raging Grannies of South Florida," part of a campaign against CBS by the Women's Media Center, is pretty darn funny:
